Education and Resource Material

In 2007, The Cropper Foundation, under its Programme for Environment and Resource Education (IERE) and the Ministry of Education in Trinidad and Tobago embarked on a Three Year Joint Programme in support of various aspects of the school curricula related to environment/sustainable development. This joint Programme includes a combination of activities and products geared specifically at the Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examinations (CAPE) and Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) levels, especially in the subject areas of Environmental Science, Geography, Biology, Caribbean Studies and Communication Studies.

With financial support provided by the David and Lucile Packard Foundation and under the technical guidance of the University of the West Indies, the Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC) and the Ministry of Education in Trinidad and Tobago, a total of four products have been completed by The Cropper Foundation and are as follows:


Brochure and accompanying series of four posters on
the Northern Range of Trinidad:

This brochure and accompanying series of four posters on the Northern Range
of Trinidad distills the main findings and conclusions of an ecological assessment of the Northern Range of Trinidad.

A Case Study Guide for Trinidad and Tobago:

This guide is designed for teachers and students undertaking case study work and provides information on six areas throughout Trinidad and Tobago which could be used by teachers and students in meeting the case study requirements under the CAPE science syllabi.

A Reference Handbook on Sustainable Development Terms and Concepts:

This handbook provides an extensive list of terms and concepts related to environment and sustainable development which are included in the CAPE science syllabi; a synposis of important conferences, agreements and treaties related to sustainable development which are a requirement of the CAPE Environmental Sciences syllabus; and a description of regional organisations involved in sustainable development.
